Grades and composition
Three nickel grades, and the purity that decides whether the mesh survives an electrolyser stack.
| Grade | UNS / standard | Purity | Used in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ni200 | UNS N02200 | min 99.5% Ni | Standard electrode substrate; alkaline water electrolysis, chlor-alkali |
| Ni201 | UNS N02201 | min 99.0% Ni, low carbon | Where the cell runs at higher temperature and intergranular corrosion matters |
| N6 | GB/T 2054 | min 99.5% Ni | Equivalent commercial pure nickel for the same duty |
Ni200 or Ni201
The difference is carbon. Ni201 is the low-carbon version, chosen where the mesh sees higher temperature and a caustic environment together, because the lower carbon reduces susceptibility to intergranular attack. Above roughly 300 °C in caustic, that is the reason to specify it.
Why purity is on the certificate
In an electrolyser the mesh is the electrode substrate and any impurity that leaches is a contaminant in the cell. Purity is measured and stated rather than assumed from the grade name.
